BSED Art Feature | Karyn Mehus

Featured on the second floor in the Mezzanine of the BSED building in Rock31 September 2022 – January 2023, is a series of pieces from Karyn Mehus.  We invite you to stop by our space to come in and see these pieces of art in person, in addition to the other art featured in our building.

About Karyn

I am a Billings resident and California native who, as a child, traveled frequently with my family to England and to various art museums around the country. Thus my work is visually influenced by surf and skate culture, many other artists, English gardens, the vast landscape of Montana, and the life around me. I have a BFA from Chapman University in Studio Arts and have been creating artwork for as long as I can remember.  I reside in Billings – the town I love –  with my husband, our teenage son, a giant rabbit, a snarky little lop, six chickens, a yellow lab, a black cat and a white goldfish named Bubbles. I am honored to be a part of the BSED/Rock31 Grand Opening.

The work:

LOVE: inspired by my own wild gardens these small floral pieces come together to profess the most important thing

A series of 30″x40″ mixed media on canvas: These works were created as a collaboration with Big Sky Economic Development and are site specific to Rock31 as they hang here on these walls. Like the individuals who will use Rock31, you will notice each painting declares its own message/color/shape and they are each informed by different experiences and influences. Yet together they create a whole, like a community, hanging here together.
