Big Sky Economic Development’s workforce program, BillingsWorks will be implementing the Summer Jobs Program in Yellowstone County this upcoming summer. The Yellowstone County Summer Jobs Program matches participants with a paid position, provides a paid foundational work skills training, and connects students with an adult mentor for the summer. SJP participants are high school students and recent graduates eager to develop their work skills and explore their career options. Participating area businesses (in all industries) and community organizations help strengthen the local economy by connecting youth to meaningful work experiences.
The Yellowstone County Summer Jobs Program (YCSJP) is a collaborative program that builds work skills, provides mentorship, promotes career exploration, and develops the local workforce pipeline. YCSJP participants are high school age youth and recent graduates eager to develop their skills. YCSJP has three components:
1. We match students with a quality work experience for the summer
2. Students complete a paid 4-hour foundational work skills training before the summer begins
3. Students meet with a volunteer adult mentor throughout the summer
The Summer Jobs Program began in 2019 in Helena and has expanded its partnerships in 2022 to encompass Yellowstone County. The program is a collaboration of: AJAY MT, BillingsWorks, Big Sky Economic Development, School District 2, Billings Association of Realtors, Billings Chamber, and Reach Higher Montana.
